Raw Card / Loose Card Purchase Price from MaxWaxPax.com

There are two ways we generally price our raw cards. Each method has advantages and disadvantages that must be considered before moving forward. Both options are described below:

  1. Add the PSA 8 and PSA 9 values together and divide by two: This method works well for cards with a higher value since the price to grade the card would be considered insignificant based on the overall anticipated value of the card.
    1. Example: Suppose you have a 2020 Prizm LaMelo Ball Rookie Blue Prizm. This card has a PSA 8 value of $1,000 and a PSA 9 value of $2,200.00. In this example, we would add the two values to reach $3,200.00 and then divide this by two, giving us a sale price of $1,600.00
  2. Take the PSA 9 value of the card and deduct the price to grade: This method works well for cards priced low since the cost to grade the card would significantly impact your overall investment cost.
    1. Example: Suppose you have a 2020 Prizm LaMelo Ball Rookie (base). This card has a PSA 8 value of $35.00 and a PSA 9 value of $60.00. Under this method, we would simply deduct the cost of grading, which is $40.00, and sell the card for $20.00. As you can see, this option provides a much more affordable opportunity for lower-priced items but would not be ideal for cards of much higher value.

We can also assist our customers with the grading process by sending the purchased raw cards to PSA for professional grading. Customers who wish to do this must pay the estimated PSA grading, shipping, and insurance fees up-front. Once payment is received, we will arrange to ship the card or cards to PSA. When the cards are returned, customers will be responsible for covering additional shipping and insurance costs and grading fees assigned by PSA within five business days. Failure to provide payment will result in forfeiture of the graded card and expenses associated with the grading process.

For customers who wish to purchase cards and have us send them in for grading, we also offer the following “pay later” option. This option is described below:

  1. Our “Pay Later” option is reserved only for those customers who wish to have us handle the grading process from beginning to end. This option is intended to reduce the upfront costs by allowing our customers to pay the estimated PSA grading, shipping, and insurance fees. Once we receive payment, the card will be sent to PSA for grading. Upon return of the card, the customer will be sent an invoice totaling one-half the current market value of the PSA grade it received. Please see the example below using the same LaMelo Ball Blue Prizm card discussed above:
    1. SA 8 final grade value is $1,000.00. Final invoice $500.00.
    2. PSA 9 final grade value is $2,200.00. Final invoice total $1,100.00.
    3. PSA 10 final grade value is $8,500.00. Final invoice total $4,250.00.

Customers who choose this option may find comfort knowing there is no risk beyond the up-front grading fees. Should the card come in at a lower grade than expected, customers are not required to pay the final price and can forfeit ownership of the card immediately. However, customers who wish to complete their purchase MUST provide full payment within five business days. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the graded card and fees associated with the grading process.
